The thirty-first session of the ISAM Scholarly Meetings will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the ISAM Dr. Tayyar Altıkulaç Conference Hall, with the participation of Steven T. Collis.

This lecture examines the dynamic interaction between religion, law, the sacred, and the secular in the formation of legal knowledge and doctrine. Drawing on the scholarship of Professor Steven T. Collis, the talk engages both theoretical and doctrinal debates about the nature of religious liberty, but also its conceptual foundations and assumptions, including such notions as state neutrality, the authority to define the scope of “law” in pluralistic societies, the nature of law itself, and whether “religion” is even a category of human endeavor deserving of distinct treatment.
