The Visiting Researcher Program is designed to provide researchers pursuing or who have completed their doctorates in Islamic studies and social sciences with a suitable academic environment, along with İSAM&#39;s library and other research facilities.

One of the objectives of the program is to facilitate a productive academic period through participation in seminars and conferences in conjunction with bilateral or multilateral meetings. The program also aims to foster inter-institutional relations and interact with the growing body of knowledge in these fields.

Guest researchers admitted to the program are anticipated to deliver a presentation at an İSAM seminar, conference, or comparable event or produce an academic output prior to their departure from the institution.

About

Guest researchers can apply to the Guest Researcher Program at any time by submitting the required application documents to isam@isam.org.tr via email. The applications to the Guest Researcher Program undergo periodic evaluations by the relevant selection committee, and applicants are informed of the results via email. The evaluation process of applications may vary depending on the volume of applications received. During their research at the institution, guest researchers are expected to give a presentation at an event such as a seminar or conference, or to produce an academic publication.

1. Application Form and Required Documents:&nbsp;

a. Application Form / Research Proposal: A document in which the applicant explains their reasons for participating in the program, presents their work in the field, and provides information about the work plan, schedule, and objectives of the study. b. Academic CV: A document showing the applicant&#39;s personal information, professional background, and academic studies in detail, with a passport-sized photo included.&nbsp;

c. Academic Publications: All types of academic publications, such as the applicant&#39;s doctoral thesis, works, articles, etc. It is important that academic publications are completed and published.&nbsp;

d. Reference Letter: A document from two different academics who are familiar with the applicant&#39;s academic work. The reference letter may include information about the person&#39;s field of interest, experience, academic achievements, personal qualities, and special skills. The reference letter is of high importance in the evaluation and decision-making process of the selection committee.&nbsp;

e. Document showing the applicant&#39;s position at the university or doctoral title.&nbsp;

f. For applicants from abroad, a health insurance document proving that they can cover health expenses in Turkey.

2. Evaluation of Applications:

a. In the evaluation of applications to the Guest Researcher Program, the following factors are considered:

&nbsp; &nbsp;i. The applicant&#39;s research proposal, 
&nbsp; &nbsp;ii. The subject of the proposed project and its relevance to ISAM&#39;s focus areas, 
&nbsp; &nbsp;iii. Objectives and expectations, 
&nbsp; &nbsp;iv. The applicant&#39;s expertise, 
&nbsp; &nbsp;v. The applicant&#39;s publications, 
&nbsp; &nbsp;vi. The proposals submitted by the applicant, 
&nbsp; &nbsp;vii. The number of applications to ISAM during a specific period,

These guiding factors are considered together, and the selection committee makes decisions based on them. Since evaluations are made only on the documents uploaded to the system (or sent via email), it is to provide accurate and up-to-date information. The responsibility for any incomplete, inaccurate, or misleading information lies with the applicant.

Application Process

1. ISAM offers free accommodation to guest researchers accepted into the program between the specified dates mentioned in the acceptance letter. The guesthouse provides single rooms equipped with a bed, bathroom, mini refrigerator, air conditioning, and a work desk. The rooms are not suitable for accommodation with children.

2. ISAM does not provide breakfast or dinner. Lunch (except on Sundays) can be obtained at the institution for a fee. Loading money onto the library membership card is sufficient for this. Lunch is served from 12:30 to 14:00. For breakfast or other meals, services can be obtained from cafes, restaurants, etc., around ISAM.

3. With the library membership card obtained from the information (entrance) desk, guest researchers have access to the library and ISAM campus, books and digital databases, lunch (except on Sundays), and the photocopy services.

4. Transportation or cash grant support, as well as private office space or equipment assistance, is not provided to guest researchers.

5. Health insurance or any insurance service is not provided to guest researchers. Participants are required to prove that they have valid health insurance covering medical expenses in Turkey.

Opportunities and Support

1- Who can apply and how? 
Academics currently pursuing or having completed their doctoral studies, either in Turkey or abroad, can apply without any age, nationality, or country restrictions by sending required documents to isam@isam.org.tr. The response will be made via e-mail.

2- What are the priority areas for research? 
Theology, History of Islamic Societies, Contemporary Islamic World, and Social Sciences are given priority.

3- What is expected from guest researchers? 
Guest researchers are expected to give a presentation at İSAM, such as a seminar, conference, or any academic event, or produce/prepare an academic publication.

4- What we offer to guest researchers? 
For information about the facilities and support provided to guest researchers, you can refer to the FACILITIES AND SUPPORT page.

5- Is accommodation provided? 
Our institution offers free accommodation to guest researchers within the dates specified in the acceptance letter. The rooms are single occupancy and include a bed, bathroom-toilet, mini-fridge, air conditioning, and a work desk. Rooms are not suitable for accommodation with children.

6- Is this position salaried? 
No, it is not salaried.

7- How can guest researchers access health services? 
To access health services in Turkey, it is crucial to have valid health insurance visiting the health center. Without insurance, treatment costs can be substantial. Our institution does not offer health services or insurance support to guest researchers. Participants must demonstrate proof of valid health insurance that covers medical expenses in Turkey.

8- How can one reach İSAM? 
There are various ways to reach İSAM, including public transportation, taxis, etc.
