The celebrated work Fuṣūṣ al-Ḥikam wa Khuṣūṣ al-Kalim, composed by Shaykh al-Akbar Muḥyiddīn Ibn al-ʿArabī (d. 638/1240) in 627 AH, has long been regarded as one of the foundational texts in the history of Islamic thought. In this work, Ibn al-ʿArabī presents in a comprehensive and systematic manner his final views concerning the doctrine of waḥdat al-wujūd. Throughout history, the text has attracted the attention of diverse intellectual circles; it has been copied numerous times, inspired dozens of commentaries, marginal notes, and glosses, and has been translated into various languages.

Hundreds of manuscript copies of Fuṣūṣ al-Ḥikam are preserved in libraries across the world. The present edition is based on what is considered the earliest known manuscript, housed in the Istanbul Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts.

This manuscript was copied by Ṣadr al-Dīn al-Qūnawī (d. 673/1274) and was also read to the author, Ibn al-ʿArabī himself, and collated against the authorial exemplar. For this revised second edition, the manuscript collation has been undertaken anew, and the work has been brought into full conformity with the İSAM Principles for Critical Editions (İTNES).
